Conclusions

Today I want to give my general opinion about the course, I want to summarize all the things that I have learnt and my feelings about all the tools and contents that we have seen. In all the pages of this diary I´ve tried to give always my opinion about everything, to explain how I feel when I am doing the activities or when I am discovering a new tool that I could use in the future with my children. First of all, I want to talk about this tool, the blog. I think it is necessary to put all your knowledge about something in this kind of tools because when you are writing, when you are doing it you are seeing if you really have learnt something useful during the course or not. A blog is also a very good resource in order to improve our skills in ICT and for our students too. If they have to study or if they just want to review something that we have been seeing at class they can always go back to the blog and read their own ideas and knowledge about something.   Secondly, I...

ICT activities

Imagen
Today I am going to show you some different activities that we had made during the course with very useful resources. Nowadays to use the ICT is something essential. We haven to encourage this kind of learning process, we have to innovate, to be different, to be better for our children. Here you have the different activities: >> Making a presentation of yourself using "Prezi" In this activity, that we can use when we will be teachers in the future, you have to tell something about your life in order to create a connection between you and your students. If you present your family, your friends, and that kind of things your students are going to be more comfortable with you because they feel that they know you. And, of course, ask them to do their own presentations! >> Storytelling This is one of the most useful, attractive and practical tool that I have learnt this year. Evertything is better with a story. Children love stories and if you as a teac...

Planning for effective use of English in the classroom

Imagen
This chapter was presented for me and my classmate Paula. I am going to put some images from our presentation, that it´s a summarize from this chapter. It is one of the most important chapter because of the theory that we have inside. We have some resources that are really useful in order to use them when we will be a techaer. Here you have the presentation:

Reading and telling stories

Imagen
In this chapter we are going to see again the skill "reading" but we are going to introduce another aspect or activity: to tell stories. It is the best way to develop not only reading, we can work and improve writing if our students have to create their own story, listening wheb they are listening to a story and speaking, when they are telling theis stories to their classmates. Children love stories. They are always eager to listen to stories, they know how stories work, they want to understand what is happening and can enjoy hearing stories in English when they start English lessons, they enjoy looking at story books by themselves and they can reread the stories they like when they can read in English themselves. >> The value of stories Help children relate new things to what they know already Help children to look at real life from different viewpoints and imagine what it feels like to be someone else Can introduce the child to other cultures and attitudes ...

Writing in English

Imagen
In this chapter we are going to talk about a different skill: writing. This is skill is also difficult for that people that is learning a second language because it is really hard to put in words your ideas, emotions etc. If it is hard for an adult we have to think in our kids... We have to be realistic and try to do with our children very easy and simple texts and tasks in order to develop this skill. >> Handwriting  We have to remember two things that make a great difference when children are learning to write in English: - their age - their degree of familiarity with roman script. When children write, they have to pay attention to several things at the same time: - develop finger control and be tidy - form letters - become familiar with the relationship between sound and spelling in English - keep the picture of the letters in their minds -learn when to use capital letters and how to punctuate   >> Using computers  Since many children are now using...

Reading in English

Imagen
In this chapter we are going to see a new skill: reading. It seems the easiest skill because there are a lot of resources and it is easy for a person that is learning a second language to read in English than another skills such as speaking or listening. It is something more natural and predictable. You don´t have to know the meaning of all the words that you have in a sentence to understand the sentence. >>Beginning reading Do your pupils know how to read in their own language? This is a big step because children have to understand the association between what they hear and what they read. Do you teach reading in English in the same way as you teach reading in your mother tongue? Learning to read in English is not as difficult if children can read in their own language, even if it is written in a different script. Your teaching situation is the most important factor when deciding how you should teach reading. There are two main approaches to teaching reading in English: ...

Speaking more freely

Imagen
This chapter is about speaking, as well as the last one. In this we are going to se some tips in order to teach how to speak without fear, without that pressure that you have sometimes because you are thinking if you are doing it well or not. In speaking with kids it is not important if they talk well or bad, if they use the gramatical estructures or not, it only matters TO SPEAK.  >> Starting to speak freely Children generally like to talk about themselves, and to hear their classmates doing the same. They enjoy talking about their favourite things, their hobbies, sports, families, and so on.   >> Speaking games You can encourage children to use English by playing a game at the same time. The games can be teacher-led. To play 'Pass the ball' you need a tape recorder, a music cassette, and a ball. This is how you play it: - Put on the music. - The children keep passing the ball to the child next to them. - When the music stops, the c...
