Listen and make
In this chapter, that is very similar to the last one, we are going to talk about activities with children that involve two skills: listening what the teacher is saying and making things while you are listening.
This chapter is different from the other because the process is more creative.
>> How to set up "Listen and make" activities.
You can begin by introducing the topic and talk a little about it. Then, you can explain to the class in English and show them what they are going to make by using gestures and actions. Repeat the instructions then later to small groups or to individual children if it is necessary and finally, while they are colouring or making something go around and comment in English on what they are doing.
>>ACTIVITIES
1. LISTEN AND COLOUR. Colouring is a very simple activity for children if we are in the first or the second course of Primary Education. Before you begin with this activity, make sure that all children have colours, crayons, etc.
2. LISTEN AND DRAW. Children can draw by themselves without instructions, but our aim as teachers is to get them to listen to some instructions in English.
3. LISTEN AND MAKE THINGS. There are many things that children can make in class with paper, plasticine and that kind of materials. Think of all the occasions you can celebrate with children. Make a list of some things your pupils could bring in to school to show you on some of
these occasions.

- Children have to make decisions
- There is more time to think and comment
- There are opportunities for co-operation between learners
- Children have something to take home at the end of the class
- We should prepare what we are going to tell about the topic or theme in our class
- We should collect the things we need so we can show children what to do
- We should practise explaining in English what they have to make and how thay have to make it
- We should think of gestures and actions that will help them understand more clearly
